Web 2.0 Tool: FlipQuiz

Today we're going to be talking about a new online tool for use in the classroom called FlipQuiz. FlipQuiz is a simple and easy to use tool that creates online Jeopardy games for review games and activities in the classroom. You can see the main website here to learn more about the tool. You can customize your game completely, from colors, background, and number of questions. FlipQuiz allows up to 6 categories with 5 questions each. If you'd like to see a completed example, click here to see a review game I've created for my Spanish I classroom. Click here to see a five minute tutorial and more information about FlipQuiz

While there are many interesting and useful features provided by FlipQuiz, one of my favorites is the ability to choose how many questions and categories you need for each review game. This is helpful because it allows you to use a review game for as long or as short of a unit or lesson that needs to be reviewed by students.

As you can see, FlipQuiz is a fun and innovative way to review new and old content in the classroom and keep students engaged while doing so.

Blogging in Education

Blogging is a platform that is highly beneficial to everyone, including parents, students, and teachers, but especially for students. In this article from EmergingEdTech, they discuss many of the benefits that blogging provides for students, as well as teachers. These benefits include improved communication skills, increased confidence, and helps to promote creative expression.
Because a large majority do not enjoy writing by hand in a journal everyday, blogging is a way to get students to express their thoughts and ideas daily, but to also to get them excited because using the computers is a fun activity to many students.
Another way blogging is beneficial is that it increases student confidence. By writing regularly and having a simple way to write what they are thinking, students are able to become more confident with their personal writing voice. It can also help students formulate their thoughts and quickly get their thoughts out, as tying is often faster than writing by hand.
One of the final ways that blogging benefits students is that it helps to promote creative expression. Students are able to come up with original content and express their opinions in a website that is their own. By using a personal blog, they are able to express their personality through the blog's theme, colors, designs, images, and especially content.
